MEET OLYMPUS EDUCATORS LISA AND TOM CUCHARA

WHO ARE YOU?

Tom and I are photographic artists who live in Connecticut. We love photographing almost every subject, but we specialize in Night Photography, Light Painting, Urban Exploration, Nature Photography, and Creativity.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU WERE A PHOTOGRAPHER?

We have both been photographing since we were teenagers, both starting out interested in nature. For me, photography is a chance to slow down and appreciate the details of everyday life. Upon reading his first issues of Outdoor Photographer Magazine, Tom craved to learn how the shot was created which motivated him to become a better photographer. We have met some fascinating people via our photography and our cameras take us to places we never dreamed of. We realized that we were photographers when we knew that we could translate what our minds eye saw through our photographs.

INTRODUCING OLYMPUS

How did you get started with the Olympus system?

The main reason that we switched to Olympus was for the Live Composite feature. In addition, we love the impressive image stabilization, real time image assessment, sharp lenses, in-camera focus stacking, pro-capture technology, and smaller size/weight. We did not just “go mirrorless” we went Olympus mirrorless due to the amazing features and technology.

What’s your go-to Olympus setup?

Our go-to Olympus setup is the M.Zuiko 60mm F2.8 Macro and M.Zuiko 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO on Lisa’s E-M1 Mark II and M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO on Tom’s E-M1X. We also love the M.Zuiko 300mm F4.0 IS PRO, being able to handhold 600-840mm is awesome!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF THE OLYMPUS FAMILY?

We love being members of the Olympus family because it has made our photography not only more productive, but more FUN! We enjoy being a part of this group of talented and inspiring photographers.

TIPS FOR OTHER BUDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS

The biggest piece of advice for budding photographers is to take LOTS of photographs, don’t just take your camera out for special events/trips, challenge yourself to create more images -- perhaps even take on your own Project365 or Project52. Olympus’ smaller size and weight makes this easier than ever, so have fun and make more photographs!

TIPS FOR OTHER PRO PHOTOGRAPHERS

Be eager to share and to learn. Always have a mentor and be a mentor.
