WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Lucas Downs, and I am a photographer from Bardstown, Kentucky. I love capturing the beauty and grandeur of landscapes found on Earth. My goal is to bring a sense of human to the scale of nature.
WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU WERE A PHOTOGRAPHER?
I have always been drawn to the outdoors growing up in semi-rural Kentucky. It was natural to start taking pictures to share what I was seeing with my friends and family. I picked up a camera during high school and it has never left my side when I adventure outdoors.
INTRODUCING OLYMPUS
How did you get started with the Olympus system?
I was selected to be part of the first Olympus Break Free Program. I was able to share the story of the Blue Ridge Mountains that I have called home the past few years. This place is special to me and I feel like it can be overlooked easily. The Olympus system gave me the opportunity to capture and illustrate the grandeur found in these hills.

How does Olympus help you do your job?
The size and weight of my Olympus camera is hands down one of the best things. It doesn’t become a burden on long hikes and performs better than the full frame I was using prior.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF THE OLYMPUS FAMILY?
The Olympus family has been incredibly nice and open to all questions! They will encourage and support you in your endeavors and career.
TIPS FOR OTHER BUDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
Shoot, shoot, shoot! The best way to learn is through trial and error. There is a saying that it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert at something. Be hungry for knowledge and keep learning every time you capture an image.

Don’t forget why you fell in love with photography in the first place. It doesn’t cost anything to be humble and more people look up to you than you may realize. Be kind and always be open to new ideas.
