The ProActive Photographer Workshop, Fall 2019

From the historic Rainbow Row to the verdant plantations, Charleston, SC is a visual delight. Learn to become ProActive in your photographic craft from award winning professional photographers Stan Foxworthy and Robert Penchick as they take you on an educational and creatively inspiring tour of Travel + Leisure Magazine’s Best City.

Requirements:
Any advanced digital SLR or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera with the basic knowledge of its use, laptop computer with editing suit (we recommend Adobe Lightroom, Luminar or Capture One) for editing your images and a strong desire to learn. This workshop requires a bit of walking, so bring comfy shoes! The weather should be perfect, with an average temperature during the day of 79 degrees, with an overnight low in the upper 60’s. We have structured this workshop for all levels and can work in two groups for both basic and advanced photographic instruction.

Mornings will also include seminars on the latest Olympus technology as Stan and Robert share their expertise and answer questions in this casual workshop environment. We will review the plans for the day’s activities and discuss photographic techniques and challenges we may face.

Friday 4:30PM – Check In at Foxworthy Studios and meet the other attendees for Happy Hour. Get a good night’s rest for the learning and adventure that awaits you the next day.

Saturday, 8AM – A light breakfast at Foxworthy Studios with a class on what it means to be a ProActive Photographer and getting the most out of your gear. At 10AM we begin your Charleston exploration with a guided historic walking tour of Charleston with certified guide Sharon Foxworthy with planned photo stops. A break for lunch and then a return to the studio to review best practices for long exposure night street photography. Friday evening provides an opportunity to use your fast lenses and night photography skills to capture the Holy City at night. Church steeples, neon, and the gas lights that grace centuries old homes provide limitless subject matter.

Sunday, 8AM – Saturday’s morning class will focus on environmental location portrait storytelling and off camera flash/lighting. Building on Friday’s experiences, attendees will have the opportunity to put what they have learned to practical application with provided models on location. There will be time to explore the city on your own before a wrap up seminar at 4:00 p.m and a review of your best three images.

*Workshop itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, but regardless, this will be a fun and worthwhile learning experience.
