1. Tell us about yourself – what made you fall in love with photography?
I am originally from Venezuela, but I’ve been living in Miami for the past 10 years. Since I was a kid, I’ve always been drawn to exploring nature. Five years ago, I visited the Florida Everglades at night for the first time, and the moment I saw those million stars, something clicked inside my head. After that, I kept coming to look at the stars almost every single day.
Photography changed my life. It showed me how to be patient, to care about the little things, and to be curious. There is nothing I love more than going out with my camera and coming home with unique memories.
2. Tell us about the project you're going to work on as part of Tell Your Story
One-third of the world’s population cannot see the Milky Way anymore. I’ve been documenting the Florida Everglades at night for the last five years, and I’ve seen how light pollution in South Florida keeps growing. With my project, I want to educate Floridians about light pollution and inspire them to appreciate the remaining dark skies while exploring the connection between the stars and humanity
3. How did you react when you found out you'd been chosen for Tell Your Story?
I was just waking up from a night of shooting the milky way. The moment I saw the message I thought I was still dreaming! I could not believe it. I jumped out of bed so fast and called my wife to let her know the amazing news!
4. (kit questions) Are you enjoying using your new OM-5? / Which equipment are you going to use? Are you enjoying it so far?
I’ve been using the OM-5 to photograph the Milky Way, and I’ve been loving it. The star autofocus system is amazing! I am pairing my OM-5 with the 7mm-14mm F2.8 and the 24mm F2.0 lenses. I never thought that a camera so small could give such good results.
In addition, the live composite feature it’s one of the most incredible features. It’s so easy to use and the results are impressive!
5. What are your goals and dreams as a photographer?
As a photographer, my goal is to use my work to help protect unique places like the Florida Everglades and inspire people to go outside and look at the stars.
