1. Tell us about yourself – what made you fall in love with photography?
Hi my name is Lacey Hébert, I was born and raised in a small town in the eastern townships of Québec, Canada. This childhood place is where my love for nature began. I became a wildlife biologist and once my work started to take me away to new and wild places, I bought a camera. It transformed my life and the way I viewed everything around me. It inspired me to be creative and brought out an artist in me that I had no idea was there.
2. Tell us about the project you're going to work on as part of Tell Your Story ↓
My project is focused on highlighting the magic and beauty found within the Grasslands ecosystem. A landscape that is quickly disappearing from land alterations, Grasslands are home to numerous species at risk. I want to bring attention to Grasslands in hopes to aid with its conservation and preservation.
3. How did you react when you found out you'd been chosen for Tell Your Story?
I could not believe it! I really didn’t expect it, but once the news finally set in, I was just so excited. And to find out that my mentor was going to be Brooke, the excitement hit another level! I am a huge fan of Brooke’s photography and cannot wait to work with her throughout the creation of my project.
4. Are you enjoying using your new OM-5? / Which equipment are you going to use?
Are you enjoying it so far? I am so thrilled about my new OM-5 camera. My very first camera was the Olympus OM-D EM-5 mark II, so I am excited to see how this one compares. I love these smaller cameras for their transportability. Don’t let the small size fool you though, they are packed with high quality features which I am still exploring. I am so excited to work with this camera more!
I will be using the M. Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8, the 40-150mm F2.8 and the 75-300mm F4.8-6.7 II lenses. This versatile set of lenses will allow me to collect images from diverse perspectives - perfect to showcase everything I want to about Grasslands - including the beautiful landscapes and wildlife.
5. What are your goals and dreams as a photographer?
I think photography will always remain as a creative hobby for me. But, I hope that more chances like this come up from time to time so that I can continue to tell stories through my images. If I can inspire just one person throughout my photography journey, then I have exceeded my expectations. I hope that photography continues to show me the world from a different “lens” and conitnues to ignite my creativity.
